Tree Removal Cost Estimator: How It Works
This estimator builds a cost range from four inputs — height, trunk diameter, species, and site accessibility — rather than a single flat per-tree number, because those four factors explain most of the real-world spread between quotes.
The math, in plain terms
- Base rate — height in feet × a national per-foot rate (roughly $9.50-$14.50/ft), the core size driver.
- Diameter multiplier — a wider trunk scales the base rate up; more cuts, heavier sections, more time.
- Species multiplier — dense hardwoods scale up further, palms scale down, see the table below.
- Access multiplier — open yard is the baseline; proximity to structures, fences, or power lines adds a surcharge.
- Crane fee — added flat once a tree exceeds about 80 feet, where a crane typically becomes necessary.
